The state of Nebraska has 24 female cardiologists. In order to offer female cardiologists of Nebraska opportunities to strengthen their professional support system, the Women in Cardiology (WIC) Section of the Nebraska Chapter of the ACC was formed in 2019. The aim of the group is to organize regular meetings of female cardiologists so they can discuss personal and professional issues in a safe environment to learn and grow together. This group also includes female cardiology fellows in training who are the future of cardiovascular medicine.
The section successfully hosted the third Annual ACC Mid-West WIC symposium virtually in September 2020 for female cardiologists in the Mid-Western United States. This is a day-long conference that focused on cardiovascular disease in women as well as non-clinical issues that are important to the careers of female cardiologists. All cardiologists, cardiovascular team members, cardiology fellows in training and internal medicine residents were invited to attend. Recordings of the event can be found at:
